Grosberga and Michiels sprint towards victory on the cobbled streets of Old Riga

Rare orienteering competitions in Latvia can be proud and address the participants with the world ranking (WRE) tag, but the traditional "Lieldienu balva" is one of them. Combined with the breathtaking knock-out sprint format, it always attracts a strong line-up of orienteers, but this year's competition stood out. On April 1, almost 600 participants took to the starting line in the cobbled streets of Old Riga, which is the attendance record for this competition. Nearly 150 members of elite groups competed for entry into the knock-out rounds, but top-level sprint orienteering specialists proved to be unbeaten - 2022 World Championship bronze medal winner Belgian Yannick Michiels and Sandra Grosberga, who finished 7th in sprint at last year's European Championships.
