Dzenītis’ Surprise Win, Grosberga’s Commanding Finish

On April 21, Sandra Grosberga extended her dominance by winning the women’s knockout sprint at the Easter Cup, while Mārtiņš Dzenītis shocked the men’s field with a home victory.

In qualification, Grosberga narrowly beat Ilze Jumiķe, with both well ahead of Estonian Hannula Katrina Pandis. In the men’s heats, Lithuanian Vilius Aleliūnas set the pace, but Dzenītis advanced to the final as the only Latvian.

The men’s final featured two Lithuanians, two Estonians, a Finn, and Dzenītis. Smart route choices at key controls gave him one of the most unexpected wins in recent years.

Grosberga led the women’s final from start to finish, while Jumiķe edged Laura Puķīte for silver in a sprint finish. The race also featured a rare mother–daughter matchup, with Laura competing alongside her mother, Irita Puķīte.

The Easter Cup closed the Amber O-Week festival and marked the second stage of the Latvian Sprint Cup
